Austin ranks 6th as 2008’s Best City

Kiplinger.com announced on June 4th 2008 that Austin is the 6th Best City to Live, Work and Play. Their criteria? The city has to have a strong economy, abundance of jobs, reasonable living costs and have plenty of things to do. Other cities and their rankings are #1 Houston, #2 Raleigh, #3 Omaha, #4 Boise, #5 Colorado Springs, #7 Fayettville, #8 Sacramento, #9 Des Moines, and finally #10 Provo.

Austin Real Estate Market

The Austin Business Journal reported that Austin’s real estate market is gaining strength based on May 2008’s sales. This is because residential sales had been the highest ever in the past 8 months. Keep in mind that May’s sales are still 20% lower than last May. On a brighter note, the average sale home sold was $263,151 a 5% appreciation compared to last May.  To find out the most recent Austin Real Estate Market Statistics, visit my blog.  I post statistics monthly.

Austin Ranks #39 as Fun Cities in 50 markets

Austin Business Journal reports that Austin ranks as # 39 under Fun Cities. Unsurprisingly, New York City tops the list of America's top fun places. That's because of the variety of recreation and entertainment available in the Big Apple. I know for a fact that my husband and I would escape our home (back then) in Long Island and spend our afternoons in the city, to dine and watch a musical on Broadway. Bizjournals has collected statistics and based on a bunch of factors, came up with this list.  With Austin's shopping, arts and musical background, golf, sailing/water recreation, I am surprised we didn't rank higher. But check out the first link above to see how we scored in several of their categories.
